Research Exchange Dance/Movement Art Residencies

MAP is opening its annual residency program for 2024 at Sutton House on the edge of the Residential Red Zone in Ōtautahi Christchurch. We are seeking artists’ proposals from either new or established performance practitioners across all disciplines that focus on dance, movement, choreography and/or embodied practice.

Selected artists work in-studio for 6 weeks, present a workshop and research presentation to the public.

Reciprocal Residencies

A fluid and responsive residency framework co-designed in conversation between MAP and the AiR. Space free of charge and pre-established duration (1-8 weeks).  Ongoing short application forms, with a fast turnaround and followed by a conversation.

RE:MAP Outreach Residency Programme

Series of hui, workshops and public events on ‘the future of residency/ing practices’. This is part of a wider research and capacity building work to connect Ōtautahi’s local community, artists and organizations with international partners.

What's on

Summer Space Program

Over Summer, community artists have the opportunity to book 20 hour blocks of studio time at a heavily discounted rate. Artists use this as a chance to research, to create new work, rehearse.

Previous Summer Space artists include Java Dance Company, Savanah Tukariri and Kerepeti Paraone

Research Exchange Dance Residencies

Each year MAP invites artists from around Aotearoa to apply to take part in the Research Exchange Artist Residencies held in Ōtautahi.

Selected artists work in-studio for a month, present a workshop and research presentation to the public, as well as either contribute a piece of writing to The Map publication or create a web page detailing aspects of their work.

Each Research Exchange Program is funding dependent so sign up to the MAP newsletter for the call for applications.
