Josie // Reciprocal Resident // 2023

9 Oct – 3 Nov 2023 // Ōtautahi, Aotearoa

Josie is a freelance dancer and choreographer from Ōtautahi where she is currently based. She has presented and performed her work throughout Aotearoa and overseas and hopes to do this right through to old age. Artistically she finds joy and meaning in nurturing the body through practice and collaborating with other artists/friends/disciplines–the most important being her ongoing artistic and life collaboration with partner Kosta. As self confessed dance nerds, die hard, dance or die, dance believers their work both celebrates and critiques the absurd world which is contemporary dance.

I’m won over by beauty and absurdity – Claire O’Loughlin, Pantograph Punch
During my RR (Reciprocal Residency) my desire is to indulge in the residency s/p(l)ace, the murky event of working on working. I’m working on my practice and new show but… Notable perhaps is that RR is most commonly associated with Rest and Relaxation. Are residencies the antidote to the soul crushing slog of artistic hustle? Some much needed
